Story

From operations to software

After serving in the Army I joined FEMA as an Emergency Management Specialist (GS-11). That is where the work clicked. For more than seven years I supported nationally significant disaster recovery operations — coordinating between field teams and headquarters, serving as the Automated Construction Estimator (ACE) subject matter expert, developing standardized training and work instructions, mentoring inspectors, and managing technical inspections, compliance, logistics, and stakeholder coordination. I was recognized by FEMA leadership, the State of Michigan, and for the Puerto Rico Earthquake response.

The common thread was decision-making under uncertainty with real consequences. That operational foundation is what I now apply to software.

In 2026 I founded Vera Arcana LLC to build AI-powered tools that respect privacy, support clear thinking, and actually ship. Vera Echo is the current expression of that work: two-sided evidence-based AI for pairs, groups, and classrooms.
