Civic tracking display · checkable claims
How far each American political group's answers on checkable claims sit from the published evidence. The center is the evidence. The farther out a cloud sits, the more of its members got the claims wrong.
Read this first. Only about 9 checkable claims can place the groups right now. That's why the clouds are wide. Each cloud shows a range, not a precise spot. Most polls report results only by party, so the four groups on each side share one position until better data exists.
Pressing Enter saves the words you typed so we can add missing claims. We don't save your name, IP address or anything else about you.
Drag to turn the map. Scroll or pinch to zoom. Select a group in the key to highlight it; select it again to clear. "Show wild claims" off hides the archetypes and the outer-fringe marks for a cleaner view; it changes no scores. Each shape runs from the core out to the far end of that group's scored range; the dot marks its scored position. The stem is drawn for meaning only and doesn't change any score.
Every group touches the core; we all share our senses and some common ground with reality.
The core is the published evidence, not any institution. Institutions have been wrong too; see the "Experts and institutions" list under Predictions, which is shown but not scored in this version. Institutions also got many things right; see the baseline rows (smoking, HIV, antibiotics, the Moon landings).
Only distance from the center matters: closer means fewer claims wrong. Groups on the same side get the same claims wrong. Up, down, left and right mean nothing on their own.
